Plenty of support for role-playing and roll-playing with action and mental challenges. No buyer's remorse

A very good variety of ships to use either as player or GM. For most players, trading up from their starter ship is a given and this lays out a whole buffet to choose from. Nothing new about the art/layout--artist render then deckplan for each ship with a write up--but we all know that going in. From my perspective it's fair content for the price, though smaller disposable income budgets may disagree.

There seems to be something wrong with the download files. There are no deck plans. There is one sheet of an empty grid and one sheet of key items.

To not spoil too much for prospective buyers.

First off, this book contains solid information about the solomani Rim expeditions. And this information alone can lead to a lot of adventure ideas. It contains also one full sector, the Kruse Sector and of course in the steady quality we now all know Mongoose is able to dole out with a lot of good historic and planetary facts.

It's a good mix of not too much information, but neither you won't left wanting.

What struck me odd was the inclusion of Valkyrie and another parasitic alien from the Spacemaster RPG - not that you actually have to wonder or that they might even feel misplaced. Quite the oposite, they make good sense for that setting and are well integrated into the contents. I only was... wasn't that already tried by someone else? And yes, Steve Jackson with GURPS Traveller also included the Valkyrie.

Aside of that, this book offers another quite different perspective of the solomani, the one closer to the truth, far away from imperial opinions and stereotypes. The solomani as daring explorers and adventurers, not afraid to measure the far reaches of the rim corridor.

Now we only need one further sourcebook, one that answers all the questions that are still unanswered by all former rulesets... the Zhodani core expeditions. I actually can't wait to have that one in my hands too.

And with the well done execution of the Deepnight Campaign, I am pretty sure, Mongoose has already something like that on it's sleeve.

This is my favorite RPG, one I cut my teeth on! So glad it's available in this format. It led the field in innovation and continues to do so.

I've found my Traveller vibe again. :-) After many years of being hopeful that the game could return more to it's roots, I've found that the latest Mongoose iteration really scratches the itch I have for the game. I know it definitely isnt for everyone, but for me it is a perfect blend. It simplies some items that I found had just gotten a bit too cumbersome in the other systems and it improves in some of the areas that OG Traveller had some issues with. Overall very happy with the purchase of this. I've just upgraded to 2nd Edition Mongoose Traveller, which I think is even better.

The sandpiper, i like this ship but the maths to its contstruction dont add up. Assuming mongoose rules, the jump drive is 5 tons short, (author has only used the percentage listed in table for size but all starship jump drives are required to add 5 tons on top of this figure, as listed in text) which also means the cost should be increased by Mcr 7.5 for the jump drive. Also the power plant is listed as being efficant x2 which requires a +2Tech level higher than normal, which adds 25% cost (+0.75 Mcr). Also if its a streamlined hull cost would be 6Mcr not 5, fuel scoops and processors cost 1Mcr, and at thst point i stopped checking. So ship cost should be more in the region of 46Mcr then minus 10% standard design would be 41.4Mcr. Also u would need to reduce some tonnsge somewhere else so that it is not over the 100ton size, maybe reduce the common area? Summary ship cost = 41.4 Mcr ( Ballpark figure)

This is a godsend if you want to write for Mongoose Travellers' Aid Society of you have no formatting skills. Well done!

This product provides basic background ideas for an adventure module but it still leaves much of the work up to the GM (aka referee). It reads more like an outline that was never fully fleshed out. If you're used to map-style play instead of theater-of-the-mind you will be disappointed. There are no encounter maps. Furthermore there are two glaring holes in the plot:

1. Global communications systems are ignored. This seems rediculous given human nature and the ease of setting up orbital "Internet" in a sci-fi campaign. The players could easily make a few phone calls which would resolve the plot.
2. Due process and other legal norms are ignored. Players who rightfully insist they did nothing wrong could easily just turn themselves in and again resolve the plot.

Forcing players to ingnore these glaring plot holes will take imagination on your part and might still feel quite contrived. Generating encounters will also take work and other suppliments.

Overall, I'd say this is the first draft of an adventure and not a completed product, but it's well worth it for $3 as a source of ideas alone. Just don't buy this thinking you'll get a ready to go module suitable for a new traveller 2300AD referee. Introductory adventures should really equip a new GM better then this. If anyone ever re-writes this adventure addressing the points above, including encounter maps, I'd happily pay $15 for the end result.

First, it is simply great that they gave a friendly wave to the Travellermap.com site and it is simply amazing. Also, Mongoose mirrors the maps there. I was not a kickstarter but if I had, I would not have been disappointed. There are four books within the purchase. Writing and the information provide a very good overview of The Great Rift, adventures, and dozens of planets are given more detail regarding histories, government, habitants, etc.. The first time I read the books they gave many ways to incorporate the info and help create adventures. The Great Rift is a great area to adventure within as it is surrounded by five major societies (The Imperiium, Aslan Hierate, Solomani Confederation, Zhodani Consulate, Vargr Extents). However, most throughout Mongoose's Traveller series have provided 2d ship plans basically useless and the vehicle drawings could be found in a 5th grade school book. Sure, I can't draw or paint but there are professionals which I'd expect more from them.

Es handelt sich um ein Buch mit verschiedenen F&D Gegenständen. Die dahinter stehende Idee das F&D getestete Gegenstände die zurück kommen weiterverkauft finde ich grandios. Die werde ich auch auf die anderen Servicegruppen übertragen. Die Gegenstände selbst sind nach Kategorien Waffen / Rüstungen / APPs / Überwachung / Sonstiges eingeteilt so das man schnell etwas passendes finden. Man findet durchaus auch Gegenstände die man in eine Mission einbauen kann ohne die Mission wortwörtlich zu sprengen. Da ich seid den 90ern selbst meine Missionen schreibe, inklusive der F&D Ausrüstung kann ich aus dem Buch wahrscheinlich einige Anregungen mitnehmen brauche es aber eigentlich nicht. Von da aus nur 3 Sterne. Wenn man gerade entsprechende Gegenstänmde sucht um Missionen aufzuwerten kann man problemlos noch einen Stern zusätzlich in die Wertung einbeziehen. Ob einem für etwas über 50 Seiten 11$ als angemessener Preis erscheint überlasse ich jedem selbst. Ich selbst möchte eben auch ein Spiel das ich vom Hintergrund und in der neuen Fassung auch von den Regeln her sehr schätze einfach fördern. Mit kkoperativen Grüßen Jochen Schräder

Best light/medium/large fighter craft of deck plans are the best I've ever seen. Also, they give info details of the hull, armor, M-Drive (thrusters), power plant, fuel,bridge, computer, sensors, weapons, tactical weapons, systems, and cargo (if applied for larger craft).

A good sourcebook for several of the minor races of the Traveller setting - the Darrians, the Geonee, uplifted Dolphins and Orca, and the Bwaps. The information on the last of those is especially useful, given how much a part of Imperial bureaucracy they are in the default setting. For some of these races, it's clear where bits of other cultures, whether real or fictional, have been used as inspiration, but they've been put together well, with the histories of each making those cultural elements plausible.

On the downside, it does seem like Mongoose skimped slightly on the proof-reading as the book goes on - there are a number of sentences that are missing words, several inconsistent spellings of terms in the alien languages (including the actual name of one of those languages), a couple of sentences that appear word-for-word in successive paragraphs, and one example of copy-and-paste (from the section on Dolphins to the section on Orca) that completely contradicts the information in the chapter on that race's social structure.

Overall, however, this is a useful sourcebook for widening the number of playable races in a Traveller game, especially as these minor races are more commonly found within the Third Imperium than many of the Major Races from previous books - while fitting an uplifted Orca into your Type S might be something of a challenge, they may make for good patrons. And having a Bwap aboard as purser or broker can do a merchant no end of good, however much they may irk the less rule-bound crew. It also gives good roleplaying tips for characterising these races, which will be handy for a GM including them as NPCs.

Almost nothing here beyond the most generic ideas and vague sketches. Feels like filler churned out to meet a deadline. All you are buying is background lore for a bunch of jokey half-serious interstellar brands, most of which are very much tied to real Earth lore in various ways - burgers, golf, etc. There is no real indication that any of this was actually made up for a game or would be useful in a game, and really a list of brandnames and franchises with no details probably would have been as useful. If you are looking for something like, "How to spice up time portside" this is not it. I'm not even sure this is all that useful for "There is a meeting portside and you want to have some background color with respect to where that meeting takes place."

Would have felt I paid to much at $1. But at least it is a professional product.

I was looking for an introductory series of adventures contained in a region to start up my new campaign with new players and this popped up as a collection just at the right time. Some nice varied adventures in the Spinward Marches.
