ArmsFest 2081
by tyrone r. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 09/08/2023 20:23:21

I hate going below 3 to 4 stars in a review, but I cannot in good conscience give it more than one star. this book is 29 pieces of drek and maybe three weapons that might be useful. the Boser Blick is a good way to break your characters own nose and everything in the Pyu & Sue section made me go "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??!!" Do not buy this book. Unless you want a good laugh.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry the book didn't hit your sense of what is plausible in the world of Shadowrun and I hope that you might find future publications of mine more to your liking.

I like the wacky ideas in the book. The little chats after each weapon add a lot of flavor to them like in the official books. All the run ideas can easily help start your own campaign.

11/10 would buy again

BattleTech: Alpha Strike Ad Hoc Unit Cards
by Michael B. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 07/27/2023 14:37:44

I thought that they might have been updated in the 4 years since the last review. I was wrong. None of the PV values are correct and there's still no crit tables on the cards. I compared Legendary cards for Natasha Kerensky, and the stats are not the same either. These might be usable for the old Quick-Strike, but not the current edition of Alpha Strike. SAVE YOUR MONEY THEY AREN'T WORTH IT!

This was a seriously fantastic book, and it's got weapons for everyone. Want something slick for Mirrorshades? Try the Assegai, or the Guandao Type 079. Want something crazy for Pink Mohawk? The Ameri-AK and the Einhanders have some serious personality! Want some crazy gadgets? The Böser Blick or the Torch Bolt might be exactly what you need for your next Run! Want something ridiculous? How about a Nanny Cam that launches itself bodily at anyone who messes with your kid? And if you're all covered on weapons, both ridiculous and divine? It's got a Convention Center location and more than a dozen ideas for Runs related to this gun-show! Give it a shot (pun intended). You definitely won't regret it!

Sharks and Crabs Get Fat In Florida: Three Stories of the Sixth World
by Jason Y. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/27/2023 15:48:05

It's a vacation into the world of Shadowrun and Sci-fi with new locales, that put a refreshing spin on the genre.

The writing is buoyed by Downes' detailed understanding of Shadowrun and it's universe. and showcasing their intricate, unique behaviors in an exciting, short story format, each with it's own memorable moments, and standout characters. Instead of the usual and boring Sci-Fi hellscape backdrop, here the author breaks traditional expectations and it's refreshing in it's locale yet still fully dystopian in nature. The backdrop is well described, but it's the characters that shine within that setting here.

Downes' work is a fresh twist on the genre, offering a narrative that is both grounded and resonant. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of vivid combat and yet it never seemed forced... meaning not only did the combat make sense when it happened, but it was also easy to understand the mechanics of what was going on, without feeling mechanical. Organic Combat if you will.

Downes masterfully builds tension, maintaining a perfect pace that makes this one a fun read.

In short... I recommend it.

Shadowrun: Shadow Cast (Runner Resource Book)
by Sean H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 06/15/2023 19:09:18

Shadowrun: Shadow Cast is a runner resource book, providing character ideas and suggestions for ways to use the characters providing both roleplaying suggestions and adventure seeds. It is a useful resource book for both players and game masters and a fun read but not a vital addition to your Shadowrun library.

Shadowrun: Shadow Cast is a Runner Resource Book for Shadowrun, Sixth World Edition, providing a variety, that is twenty, character archetypes, allowing for a wide set of ideas and options for players (and Game Masters as well) to explore different sections of the Sixth World and the people who live there.

It begins with an introduction, then the required fiction piece, and then onto the archetypes of which there are twenty covering a wide variety of character types, some magic, some tech, combat and social oriented, something for everyone.

Each is organized with an introduction to the archetype, several variations on the theme (listed under backgrounds), a set of plot hooks and adventure ideas, and most have a quality path (or two) that tie into the archetypes and lastly, some roleplaying advice for the archetype.

Quality paths were first introduced in the Sixth World Companion and are a chain of qualities that are opened, or reduced in price as the case may be, by certain actions taken by the characters. In some cases, the paths have negative qualities included that provide points that can only be used to buy positive qualities with the path. It is an interesting idea and I have yet to see it in play but the concept is solid. Many of these quality paths are opened up by specific adventures for the archetype.

I am not going to run through every archetype and critique it, that way lies madness, but I will make some general comments:

>While aspects of builds (minimum attributes, skills, qualities) are suggested, the way to get to them through the priority system for character builds (the default system for character creation) is not suggested.  >As this is explicitly a sourcebook for player characters it normalizes the playing infected (i.e. vampire) and blood-magic using player characters. Both of which are . . . problematic at best. The infected character must literally destructively feed on other members of metahumanity which the blood magician has to inflict pain and death on the same to fuel their magic. Is this the sort of thing that we should be encouraging? Yes, Shadowrunners are, by definition criminals partly that is because the system is corrupt, but they do not have to be sadistic murderers as well adding to the misery. ?It brings back one of the most unique archetypes, the burned-out mage, the magic user who has been seduced (or forced) down the road of cyber-replacement and implanted technology.

The book ends with four pages wasted advertising Mug Book, a deck of Shadowrun NPCs and showing six character cards whose achetypes are drawn from the Shadow Cast list. And a two-page index to all of the qualities and quality paths published so far and where to find them which is actually helpful.

Overall, a useful book for character inspiration and to be commended for its roleplaying suggestion and wealth of adventure seeds and plot hooks. But not for its normalization of infected and blood magic users as acceptable character types.

Fastjack's Shadowfiles
by J K. H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 06/11/2023 22:58:31

As a Freelancer and LONG TIME FAN of the Shadowrun IP, I find this incredibly useful and fascinating just to look at. I really wish I had the source Excel or DBase type file that fed into this, because there are points where I'd love to do separate sorts into "everyone in this book" type of thing.

Shadowrun: Rigger 2
by Lance W. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/24/2023 12:42:17

As the previous reviewer stated (wish I had read before purchase) Rigger 2 is a great resource. This PDF on the other hand is aggrevating to have spent money on. It was obviously an automated scan. The bookmarks are unusable , pages 29 and 30 are absent as well as pages 95 and 96 are severely distorted. Do not purchase this product until it is corrected.

Meet the New Boss
by Mason H. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/12/2023 13:32:54

This is a nice bit of nostalgia — an unpublished outtake from Shadowrun Third Edition’s “Year of the Comet” sourcebook, announcing Ghostwalker’s takeover of Denver. It’s a quick read — just seven pages including the cover and credits, but a treat for longtime Shadowrun players and collectors. Skip your next trip to the vending machine and grab this instead.

Way of the Grease Monkey
by A customer [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 05/02/2023 10:35:10

Exo Skeletons have not been talked about much in the Shadowrun universe, so it's nice to see some depth to the technology. Part of me was hoping for new details on the Way of the Grease Monkey, but what's there fits with the book's context.

Shadowrun: Anno Domini Part 1
by Eric N. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 04/27/2023 16:41:52

A detailed campaign that melds seamlessly in to the world and lore of Shadowrun. All art and design within is incredible. Great care was taken by the designer and writer to match, or exceed, official modules. The campaign's plotline and debugging are filled with just about all you need and more for comprehensive sessions. A fair amount of points within the campaign lean into the potential roleplay and ideas that the runners conjure up. Shadowrunning isn't easy or simple, and this campaign leans into it just right.

I eagerly await the next part in this campaign series.
